Book: Family Squeeze
Author: Phil Callaway
Dates: March 24 – 28
Summary:
You’re in the “Middle Ages”–sandwiched between the “greatest generation” and the “gimme” generations, busily juggling both with no relief in sight. Children are driving, and parents are not. Money is tight and so are your favorite jeans. And things that never ached before are beginning to give you trouble! For every baby boomer who wonders if it’s possible to navigate the Middle Ages with grace and style, Phil Callaway offers plenty of hope and a little hilarity, too. Because there’s nothing like a smile to make wrinkles less noticeable.
Author Bio:
Described as “Dave Barry with a message,” author, speaker, and television host Phil Callaway has written twenty books, many of them bestsellers and is a popular speaker at conferences, camps and marriage retreats, coaxing laughter and tears from audiences worldwide. Of his personal accomplishments he rates the following highest: shutting off the TV to listen to his children’s questions (twice), taking out the garbage without being told (once), and convincing his high school sweetheart Ramona to marry him (once).

Review:
By the time you are finished reading Family Squeeze: Tales of Hope and Hilarity for a Sandwiched Generation, you will feel like you are old friends with the author Phil Callaway! He brings you into his life, and he shares his heart with you, friend to friend. I think that the majority of people, even if they aren’t in the “sandwich,” can relate to the challenges, hopes, dreams, fears, doubts, and disappointments he shares in this book.
When I read the introduction to the book, I thought I was getting into a nice, light, make-me-laugh, easy-to-read book. By the time I finished, I was in tears and knew this was NOT just a light, happy book! It is deep and pulls at your heartstrings. But it is about life, and life has light, funny, happy times, and it also has hard times. Phil Callaway lets you know that he understands the hard times (he’s been there), and he wants you to know that there is always hope to get you through it all. He teaches you that laughter is often the best medicine, and he keeps you medicated throughout this book! I don’t think I have ever both chuckled out loud and cried while reading one book. Family Squeeze is a great book, and Phil Callaway is a great writer. I highly recommend it, particularly for the “Sandwiched Generation.”
